Introduction
A great Automixing system should be as its name implies: Automatic. Within the halls of justice or behind the closed doors of a boardroom, the environment can be quite chaotic during times of great debate. A proper sound system is necessary to ensure that everyone is heard and that order is maintained. An Automixer is the linchpin of such a system requiring no user control and able to mix hundreds of microphones transparently.
SymNet based Automixing systems are the most powerful and flexible, yet easiest to use in the industry. Both standards of Automixer modules (Gain-sharing and Gating) are provided in its expansive toolkit.
SymNet scales with ease, using SymLink or CobraNet bussing, from single module systems to virtually limitless sizes by chaining modules together. User control, be it simple push-to-talk buttons or complex touch panel control systems, is quickly integrated using SymNet’s easily mastered External Control Protocol or sophisticated Control Logic modules.
Overview
Imagine yourself settling in for an afternoon hearing at your local city hall. Splayed across the head of the room are seven seats at a semi-round table, each with its own microphone. Directly in front of the seven seats is a lone podium, also with a microphone.
This particular room’s acoustics are not ideal. If all eight microphones were turned on at the same level and only one person were talking, the result would not be very intelligible. The other seven microphones would pick up room noise, reverberation, etc. which would degrade the sound. Furthermore, adequate volume would not be obtained because the maximum gain before feedback would be significantly reduced due to the extra open microphones. A skilled operator could deal with this situation by turning on only the microphones that are in use at any given time leaving all other microphones off. SymNet’s Automixer modules perform this same function, but can react much more quickly than a human operator. Plus, a SymNet-based Automixer system is completely autonomous, requiring no salary or coffee breaks!
In addition to clarity, control and order must be maintained in any collaborative environment. SymNet’s Automixer technology does not disappoint. Priority controls allow higher priority channels to override those with lesser priority. SymNet’s Gating-type Automixers allow the number of open microphones (NOM) to be limited.
Flexibility is a virtue for installed sound and SymNet is always the overachiever. All Automixer modules can be linked to create larger mixing systems of nearly limitless size. All Automixer modules also feature both composite mix outs and (post algorithm) direct channel outs to create mix-minus systems.
