SYMNET APPLICATIONS
Conferencing

Introduction
A meeting can be as simple as two people having a face to face conversation. Conferencing, however, implies something much more complex – a remote party joining the meeting. Be it by telephone, internet or a simple patch to a room down the hall, any time remote or “far end” audio is combined with the local sound reinforcement, clarity, particularly echo, is a problem for the “far end” participants.

SymNet based conferencing solutions provide the clarity necessary for a productive environment. Acoustic Echo Cancellation technology is included at no additional charge in all SymNet DSP devices – and no additional hardware is required. This, combined with SymNet’s full range of audio routing and signal processing, provides a powerful and flexible system that can expand with your needs.

Overview
Meeting rooms vary in size and shape but typically include a table or tables along with a screen and projector so that many people can view presentation material. Sometimes speakers are mounted in the ceiling; other times stereo or surround setups are installed. Audio sources such as MP3 players and computer audio are often routed into the room. A collection of microphones (such as desktop models, ceiling mounted or boundary type) may be placed around the room.

Bringing distant audio into a room (via teleconference) while the room microphones pick up the local audio can create an audio problem. When teleconferencing, the audio coming in from the phone line is amplified in the room, picked up by the local microphones and sent back to the caller. The caller then hears a delayed version of his/her own voice coming back through their phone line perceived as an echo.

To solve this problem, Echo Cancelling technologies are incorporated into the audio system. Echo Cancelling modules monitor the phone line audio and then remove it from the microphone signal which eliminates any echo that would have been heard by the caller.
